Our hummingbird species
17 species of hummingbirds have been recorded in Trinidad and 6 in Tobago - one of which is not found in Trinidad. So a total of 18 between the islands. Plus! One extra species that has not yet been officially recorded in Trinidad.
Not a bad tally for two rather small islands.
Worldwide there are about 365 species of hummingbirds. They are all found in the Western Hemisphere from Alaska to Argentina.
For the last 15 years we have been photographing hummingbirds in Trinidad and Tobago and we are proud to have created this stunning design including all the species found in the islands.

Black throated mango - Anthracotherax nigricolis
Green-throated mango - Anthracotherax viridigula
Ruby topaz - chrysolampis mosquitus
White-necked jacobin - Florisuga mellivora
White-tailed sabrewing - Campylopterus ensipennis
Rufous-breasted hermit - Glaucis hirsutus
Little hermit - Phaethornis longuemareus
Green hermit - Phaethornis guy
White-chested emerald - Chrysuronia brevirostris
Blue-tailed emerald - Chlorostilbon mellisugus
Blue-chinned sapphire - Chlorostilbon notata
Brown violetear - Colibri delphinae
Long-billed starthroat - Heliomaster longirostris
White-tailed goldenthroat - Polytmus guainumbi
Glittering throated emerald - Chionomesa fimbriata (Possibly seen but not officially recorded)
